About the Summit

The Mission of The
Torchlight Summit

The Mission of The
Torchlight Summit

When humanity expands beyond Earth, we have to get the foundations right. Torchlight brings together scientists, technologists, and political scholars to investigate how emerging technologies will shape the institutions that govern life beyond our planet.

Many principles of political order were formed under the conditions of Earth: gravity, territory, nation states, and biological constraints tied to a single world. As humanity moves into lunar, Martian, and deep-space environments, these assumptions may no longer hold. Torchlight explores where political theory must adapt when technological systems such as AI, biotechnology, and autonomous infrastructure become the backbone of human settlement.

Leadership

Summit Founders and Directors

The Torchlight Summit was founded and is directed by Eliah Overbey as a working forum to advance the principles of individual liberty to human civilization beyond Earth.

Torchlight is guided in collaboration with Co-Directors, including Christopher Mason, whose leadership in spaceflight omics and translational genomics helps shape the summit’s scientific agenda and research integration.

Together, the leadership team convenes astronauts, biologists, engineers, philosophers, and political scientists, institutional builders committed to developing the architecture of freedom in our looming space age.
